# Agentic Commerce Protocol Info

> Neutral, up-to-date reference comparing the open standards behind agentic commerce: ACP, UCP, AP2, MCP and x402. Every fact is dated and linked to a primary source. English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian.

This site is an independent comparator and adoption tracker. It is not affiliated with OpenAI, Stripe, Google, Shopify, Anthropic or Coinbase. Facts are verified against primary sources and carry a "last verified" date because the space changes quickly.

Key dated facts (last reviewed 2026-08-30, primary sources):
- MCP (Model Context Protocol): introduced by Anthropic on 25 November 2024; named as a founding technical contribution to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation on 9 December 2025. Its 2026-07-28 specification uses a stateless core and adds multi-round-trip requests, header-based routing, cacheable list results and authorization changes. License MIT.
- ACP (Agentic Commerce Protocol): co-developed by OpenAI and Stripe, announced 29 September 2025. It powered the original Instant Checkout in ChatGPT. On 24 March 2026 OpenAI announced a focus on product discovery and merchant checkout; ACP now carries product discovery, merchant feeds and promotions into ChatGPT while merchants run their own checkout. License Apache 2.0. Spec versions: 2025-09-29, 2025-12-12, 2026-01-16, 2026-01-30, 2026-04-17.
- UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol): launched by Google on 11 January 2026, co-developed with Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target and Walmart, endorsed by 20+ organizations; announced for a future agentic checkout rollout on Google AI Mode and the Gemini app. License Apache 2.0. Latest reviewed release: v2026-08-25.
- AP2 (Agent Payments Protocol): announced by Google on 16 September 2025 with 60+ organizations; extends A2A and MCP. Donated by Google to the FIDO Alliance on 28 April 2026, with AP2 v0.2 adding Human Not Present payments. Open specification.
- x402: launched by Coinbase on 6 May 2025; native stablecoin payments over HTTP 402. License Apache 2.0. Specification stewarded by the x402 Foundation.
- A2A (Agent2Agent): announced by Google on 9 April 2025; donated to the Linux Foundation on 23 June 2025. Agent-to-agent communication, Apache 2.0, spec v1.0.
- TAP (Trusted Agent Protocol): unveiled by Visa on 14 October 2025, with Cloudflare; merchants cryptographically verify AI agents (HTTP Message Signatures, RFC 9421).
- Mastercard Agent Pay: announced 29 April 2025; proprietary agentic payments program using Mastercard Agentic Tokens.
- MPP (Machine Payments Protocol): launched 18 March 2026 by Tempo and Stripe; open standard for programmatic agent payments over HTTP, stablecoins and fiat.

## Recent developments (June to August 2026, primary sources)
- UCP v2026-08-25 (25 Aug 2026): multi-vertical structures, grocery readiness, 3DS2 flows, structured request constraints, split and scheduled payments, consent and loyalty changes. A release does not prove merchant adoption.
- Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments (18 Aug 2026): general availability with x402 and MPP, session spending caps, expiry controls and transaction observability. This is an AWS product announcement, not an independent usage measure.
- MCP 2026-07-28 specification (28 Jul 2026): stateless core, multi-round-trip requests, header-based routing, cacheable list results, authorization hardening and a formal extension framework.
- Visa Payments Forum (10 Jun 2026): Visa expands Visa Intelligent Commerce with Agent Score, an Agentic Directory and a Large Transaction Model, plus stablecoin settlement; and announces a partnership with OpenAI for tokenized, agent-initiated Visa payments.
- Mastercard Agent Pay for Machines (AP4M), 10 Jun 2026: machine-speed agent-to-agent payments and microtransactions with 30+ partners (Adyen, Coinbase, Stripe, Cloudflare, Getnet by Santander, OKX, Tempo).
- Adyen Agentic (16 Jun 2026): Agentic Feed, Agentic Cart and Agentic Payments; one integration across agent platforms.
- Coinbase and AWS (15 Jun 2026): publishers using AWS CloudFront and WAF can charge agents through x402, initially settling USDC on Base; this scope is distinct from AWS AgentCore Payments GA support for x402 and MPP.
- Shopify Spring 2026 Edition (17 Jun 2026): agentic commerce layer opened to all developers, public MCP endpoint, UCP Skill, expanded Catalog API.
- Provider-reported production pilots: Worldline and ING describe a 2 June transaction as Europe's first end-to-end agentic payment; Mastercard and Nordea describe a 5 June transaction as Finland's first; Getnet, Mastercard and Neivor describe a 9 June transaction as the first in Mexico and Latin America.
