What this barometer proves, and what it does not: it records which public signals a merchant exposes to an identified robot on 2026-09-09. It does not test an agent transaction, a payment or a partnership, and a blocked homepage is counted as blocked rather than bypassed. Read it as a map of the visible surface, not as a certification.

Five findings from the data

UCP is present but thin: 9% in France, 16% in the United States. 23 French and 41 US merchants serve a valid profile. Another 6 French and 18 US sites return HTTP 200 on /.well-known/ucp with something that is not a profile, which is why the barometer validates the JSON instead of trusting the status code.
Almost every valid profile comes from the platform, not the merchant. 96% of the valid French profiles and 90% of the valid US profiles carry version 2026-08-25, and 58 of the 64 valid profiles sit on a storefront with a Shopify marker in its response headers or in the profile itself: the file is published by the platform. The remaining versions (2026-01-23 in France, 2026-01-23, 2026-04-08 in the US) point to merchant-side or other-platform implementations.
One merchant in four is invisible to a robot that says who it is. 60/250 French and 61/250 US homepages return 403. 2 of them (sezane.com, backcountry.com) still publish a valid UCP profile behind the block: the discovery path is open while the storefront is closed.
llms.txt is more common in the US (28%) than in France (16%). A further 7 French and 12 US sites answer 200 with their homepage HTML under /llms.txt, a false positive the barometer discards.
Product JSON-LD on the homepage is rare (2% FR, 0% US). Product structured data lives on product pages, not on the homepage; this signal is kept for comparability with the public scanner and should be read as “exposes products from the front door”, not as an absence of structured data.

Method, and what it is worth

Panel. Semrush Trending Websites, catégories commerce, période 2026-07, collecté 2026-09-09 ; exclusions éditoriales listées dans excluded_*.csv Amazon, Walmart, Apple and Temu were added from the general ranking. The editorial type column (marketplace, retailer, brand) is a judgement, not a source datum, and is published as such.

Checks. Identiques au scanner public (functions/_lib/scan.ts) : home HTTPS, robots.txt, llms.txt, /.well-known/ucp, Product JSON-LD sur la home, vocabulaire politiques, HTTPS. Differences with the public scanner, all documented in the dataset: redirections résolues sur le même domaine avant le scan; ucp_valid = JSON avec ucp.version et ucp.services; llms_valid = 200 et corps non HTML; vocabulaire politiques étendu au français; same-site http redirects are upgraded to https and followed.

Scan. The French panel was scanned from a French IP address, the US panel from a US address, on 2026-09-09, with the user agent ACPInfoPublicSignalScanner/1.0 (+https://agenticcommerceprotocol.info/scan). One pass per merchant: this is a snapshot, not a monitoring series. A homepage that returns 403, 5xx or a timeout is recorded as such and not retried.

Limits. Signaux publics uniquement : aucune transaction agent testée, aucune certification. Un 403 sur la home = mesuré tel que vu par un robot. A merchant can be integrated with an agent platform through a private channel that leaves no public trace; the barometer would not see it. Conversely a valid UCP profile served by a platform does not mean the merchant has enabled agent checkout.

Questions about the barometer

What does the barometer measure?

Seven public signals on each merchant's homepage and three discovery paths: HTTPS homepage readable by an identified robot, robots.txt, llms.txt, /.well-known/ucp, Product JSON-LD on the homepage, policy vocabulary and HTTPS transport. It is the same check as the public merchant signal scanner, run on 500 merchants on 2026-09-09.

How many merchants publish a UCP profile?

23 of 250 French merchants (9%) and 41 of 250 US merchants (16%) serve a JSON document with a ucp.version and ucp.services member at /.well-known/ucp. An HTTP 200 alone is not counted: 6 French and 18 US sites answer 200 with a page that is not a UCP profile.

Why do so many merchants score as closed to robots?

24% of French and 24% of US homepages return HTTP 403 to an identified scanner. The barometer measures what a robot that declares itself sees; it does not attempt to bypass bot protection. A blocked homepage is recorded as blocked, exactly as the public scanner does.

Is a high score a certification?

No. The score aggregates public signals. It does not test an agent transaction, payment security or a partnership. A merchant can be agent-ready through a private integration without any public signal, and a merchant can publish a UCP profile without accepting an agent order.

How was the panel selected?

From the Semrush Trending Websites lists for France and the United States (July 2026 period), seven commerce categories, 100 sites per category, deduplicated, ranked, then filtered by a published exclusion list (media, comparators, second-hand marketplaces, foreign duplicates, global manufacturer sites). The panel CSV, the exclusions and the scanner are downloadable.

Can I get my store measured?

Yes. Run the public scanner on your homepage: the checks are identical. Click any merchant in the table to open the scanner pre-filled with its address.
