ACP is an OpenAI and Stripe commerce specification whose current ChatGPT use is product discovery; the old native checkout flow ended in March 2026. UCP covers the full shopping journey across Google surfaces (Google + Shopify). AP2 is a payment-agnostic framework for authorizing agent-led payments (Google). x402 carries native stablecoin payments over HTTP (Coinbase). They are largely complementary.
AP2 vs MCP: are they competitors?
No. AP2 is explicitly designed as an extension of MCP (and the A2A protocol). MCP handles tool and data context; AP2 adds the payment authorization layer on top.
Is the Agentic Commerce Protocol the same as AP2?
